Plaster therapy is a body treatment that reduces volume in one session. An active formula is applied to the body and sealed under a plaster wrap: as it sets, the wrap releases heat and creates a closed environment in which the ingredients work deeper than under an ordinary wrap. Excess fluid and toxins leave the tissue, and the skin tightens.
Who it is for
you need to lose volume by a particular date — a wedding, a shoot, a holiday;
swelling and heaviness in the legs;
uneven skin texture, “orange peel”;
loss of tone after weight loss or childbirth;
fluid retention after desk work or a flight.
How the session goes — 90 minutes
measurements before we start — so there is something to compare the result with;
preparing the skin and applying the active formula;
the plaster wrap over the areas being treated;
the wrap warms and sets while it works;
removal, aftercare and a second set of measurements.
Result
Up to 6 centimetres less in volume after a single treatment, together with tighter skin, less swelling, better texture and a visibly slimmer silhouette. I take measurements before and after, so you see the result in numbers rather than taking my word for it.
How many sessions
A basic course is usually 4–8 treatments. Some protocols use an intensive course — for example 4 treatments over 14 days. Frequency is most often once or twice a week unless a particular protocol says otherwise. Once the course is complete, maintenance treatments are possible; how often is decided individually.
How long the result lasts
The first changes — smoother, better-cared-for skin and less of a swollen feeling — can be noticeable straight after the treatment. How long the effect lasts depends on your body and your lifestyle.
To keep the result:
drink enough water;
move regularly;
keep your diet balanced;
go easy on salt and alcohol;
maintain a stable weight;
have maintenance treatments if needed.
Please note: wraps do not burn fat and are not a weight-loss method. They give a cosmetic effect, influence hydration and temporarily improve the look of the skin.
Contraindications
Before plaster therapy your health and skin are always assessed. The main contraindications, and conditions that call for a consultation first, are:
pregnancy — particularly for treatments with active or heat-activated ingredients;
acute inflammation and raised temperature;
active infections;
thrombophlebitis or suspected thrombosis;
pronounced varicose veins and other significant venous conditions — whether the treatment is possible depends on its type;
serious cardiovascular conditions;
blood clotting disorders;
cancer — not without prior agreement with your doctor;
damaged skin: wounds, grazes, active breakouts;
acute skin conditions in the treatment area;
allergy or individual sensitivity to the ingredients.
With wraps, particular attention goes to vascular conditions, skin damage and acute inflammation. With thrombophlebitis or pronounced varicose veins the treatment should not be carried out without a specialist assessment.
Before and after
on the day, do not come on an empty stomach or straight after a heavy meal;
a light meal a few hours before the session is ideal;
keep your fluid intake normal through the day;
tell the specialist about chronic conditions, vein problems, allergies and any medication you take;
do not have the treatment on irritated or damaged skin.
For traditional wraps, cosmetology training materials recommend leaving at least two hours after a meal.
After the treatment:
drink enough water through the day;
keep meals light and balanced;
go easy on salty food and alcohol;
give your body time to recover;
do not book further intensive body treatments without a specialist’s advice.
Depending on the wrap protocol, you may be advised to avoid saunas, steam rooms, intense heat and sun exposure for the next 24 hours. Please note: the exact aftercare depends on the products used and the technique. Your specialist’s guidance and the manufacturer’s protocol take priority.
Frequently asked
Will the volume come back? Partly, yes — if the reduction came from releasing excess fluid and swelling. Plaster therapy does not remove fat cells and is not a weight-loss method.
Is this weight loss? No. The treatment works on swelling, fluid retention and skin tone, not on fat tissue. Combined with changes to your diet, the effect lasts longer.
Is 90 minutes in a wrap comfortable? For most people it is, though sensations differ. The wrap holds the body firmly, so you may feel light pressure or limited movement. You spend the session in a resting position.
